My husband likes to head out to a nice restaurant to have breakfasts at over the weekends. Those of you who follow me on social media must already know that it has been an unofficial tradition of our little family. So we try to find places that are nice, affordable and family friendly to make every weekend extra special and different. Fortunately, this Saturday we didn’t have to go through endless directories trying to find a good place to visit as I was invited by The Coffee Club!
We have been at this Australian Cafe once before when it had just opened its doors, but we literally just stumbled upon it and didn’t really know what to order and not. Nevertheless, it was pleasant to visit and we wanted to go back to see what new they were offering.
Of the various locations of The Coffee Club, we visited the one at the Wasl Vita Mall in Jumeirah. The look and feel of the cafe are quite different from the rest of the mall and you feel immediately feel cozy in the low-lit contemporary surroundings, with pockets of natural light. I loved how they have incorporated metal grids in the design and even used them for a “green” wall in the place. This wall is an Instagrammer magnet 😀
What we ordered:
The staff greeted us and right after we chose a place to sit at, Manaal was given a coloring page and color pencils. With the child settled, we asked the staff for their recommendations for breakfast. The “Big Breakfast” and “Eggs Benedict” were their best sellers from the regular menu. I was more interested in the Chef’s specials and asked a lot of questions about the dishes which were happily answered by the Assistant Manager. We settled for Egg’s Benedict for my husband, Eggs with Avocado Smush and Chorizo for me and Nutella Waffles with Caramelized banana for Manaal (Boy, was it her lucky day?!).
For drinks I ordered an Affogato (since I was caffeine deprived since I woke up), a chocolate brownie shake for Manaal (yes, it was her lucky day!!!) and Fresh OJ for my husband.
As you can see, the presentation was both creative and impeccable. You rarely expect that, especially for breakfast! Our poached eggs were runny, just like asked (you would be surprised at how many times that gets messed up!). I absolutely loved the multigrain bread in my Eggs with Avocado Smush and the combination of crunchy, nutty bread with gooey eggs was heaven for the taste buds. The chorizo was not overcooked and the combination of tahini sauce with chorizo was mind-blowing! The whole dish was explosions of flavors, one after the other.
We could switch up the muffins in the Eggs Benedict for multigrain, for which my hubby was grateful. He was quite happy with the Eggs Benedict with Salmon.
Manaal, on the other hand, was overjoyed once her plate arrived. It had hazelnut waffles, on a bed of Nutella, chocolate sauce, pistachios, and brownies, topped with a caramelized banana, a dollop of vanilla ice cream and Persian cotton candy drool. I don’t think I need to explain how tasty that was!
The portions were huge so we were quite full until my husband read somewhere that The Coffee Club’s Balaleet is “BACK”. Upon enquiring we came to know that the Balaleet (traditional Emirati dessert) was a Ramadan special by The Coffee Club, but due to popular demand, they have made it a regular. Let me tell you what Balaleet is. It’s sweet vermicelli, topped with a saffron omelet. It combines sweet and savory flavors in one dish and is quite rich.
Now let me tell you about the balaleet at The Coffee Club. The Coffee club teamed up with Shaikha Al Ali of When Shaikha Cooks and gave a new twist to the traditional Balaleet. It’s basically a cinnamon, honey and butter coated brioche filled with sugary Kiri cheese and topped with cinnamon vermicelli topped with pieces of saffron omelet and walnuts. It’s then topped with raspberries and drizzled with caramel sauce that also comes on the side if you are up for more!
The Last Word:
So if you are at The Coffee Club, you have to give the Balaleet a try! It’s the best we have tried so far! Also, if you visit with friends and family, do try their loaded shakes! The lunch menu of The Coffee Club looked so appetizing, but we were so full that we left that for another time. The Coffee Club has definitely become one of our favorite breakfast places in Dubai. Have you been there? What do you like on their menu? I would like to hear your thoughts!
